Miss Universe Philippines 2021’s Cagayan bet Gianne Asuncion tested positive for COVID-19, but remains hopeful that she will recover from the disease.

Asuncion revealed she caught COVID-19 by showing photos of herself in a hospital, through her Instagram page yesterday, Aug. 22. She also showed her glam photo from the pageant.

“I went silent for days. With the discovery of being [COVID-19] positive with pneumonia, I didn’t know how to react,” the Miss Universe hopeful admitted. “I didn’t know what’s next that could happen.”

Asuncion added that her battle with the coronavirus will not be easy, but she believes she is on the way to recovery.

“[This] fear of the unknown can’t stop me. It might be hard, but all I know is I will heal. I will get better,” she said.

Asuncion is one of the candidates in Miss Universe Philippines 2021’s top 50. She also made it to the top 15 in the pageant’s first four challenges.

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization is having its delegates go through a series of challenges to determine who will advance further into the competition. Each challenge will trim the roster until only 30 delegates remain.

All final candidates can be seen at the live coronation on Sept. 25. JB
