Stanwell truck and ambulance crash leaves two dead in Central Queensland

Two ambulance passengers are dead and several other people are injured after a horror crash in Central Queensland.

Police believe an ambulance was parked at a temporary traffic light set up at roadworks on the Capricorn Highway at Stanwell just after midday when a truck crashed into the back of the vehicle.

The crash caused “extensive damage”, pushing the ambulance off the road and causing it to roll.

Police said two passengers in the back of the ambulance died at the scene, while the driver and two other passengers were taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed a paramedic had been taken to hospital in a stable condition but it was not clear whether those killed had been patients.

The truck driver was also taken to Rockhampton Hospital, in a serious condition.

The forensic crash unit is investigating.
