Handling of Novak Djokovic’s visa ‘great disgrace for Australia’

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has said the government’s handling of tennis world number one’s Novak Djokovic’s visa case is a “great embarrassment for Australia”.

“The rules are clear that you need to be double vaccinated in order to enter Australia and we still don’t have an explanation as to how it is that the Australian government under Scott Morrison issued the visa in the first place,” he said.

Mr Djokovic’s deportation case will return to court at 9:30am Sunday, with the tennis star still hoping to play in the Australian Open.
