How to track your macros

Knowing how to track your macros (short for ‘macronutrients’) can make a big difference to your fitness goals. Diet and physical activity are closely connected, and if you don’t pay enough attention to what you’re eating on a daily basis, you may struggle with losing weight or building muscle mass.

“Tracking macronutrients can be helpful in giving you a high-level view of your overall food intake,” says Dr Claire Shortt, nutritionist and lead scientist at FoodMarble (opens in new tab). “It can sometimes be hard to make healthy dietary choices without first knowing what kind of foods you are eating, and in what quantity. For many of us, this would be near impossible without tracking our food. Even tracking for a certain time period is helpful.”
