Labor comes off bipartisanship line on national security

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Labor has come off the bipartisanship line on nationwide safety following Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s submarine announcement.

Speaking to the Lowy Institute Mr Morrison introduced a brand new east coast submarine base.

“First Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers saying that he hoped this was not another announcement without substance,” Mr Clennell stated.

“This was echoed by a press release from the Shadow Defence Minister Brendan O’Connor today which said Scott Morrison has taken a leaf out of his marketing playbook by making an announcement about a decision that will be made in 2023 and won’t actually be feasible for more than a decade after that.”
