Legal fight to obtain club records amid threat to Easter racing tradition

In South Australia there has been a fight brewing over the removal of jumps racing as Racing SA decided to “can it” from next year’s calendar, according to Sky News host Caleb Bond.

“The biggest race meeting in South Australia was a jumps meeting at Oakbank every Easter, where it had been run for 147 years,” Mr Bond said.

“Despite this long association with the great sport of jumps racing, the Oakbank Racing Club for some reason rolled over and accepted what Racing SA told it to do to get rid of the jumps.

“Economic studies suggest that this jumps carnival brought more than $10 million in economic benefit to the Adelaide Hills and it is a race meeting of international significance.”

Mr Bond discussed the issue with former Oakbank Racing Club chairman John Glatz.
