Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting of Jacqueline Avant, wife of ‘Godfather of Black Music’

A person pleaded responsible to homicide Thursday within the dying of Jacqueline Avant, the spouse of a legendary Los Angeles music govt, officers mentioned.

Aariel Maynor, 30, was accused of killing Avant, 81, and taking pictures at her safety guard throughout a theft at her Beverly Hills residence on Dec. 1, the workplace of Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón mentioned in a press release.

Maynor pleaded responsible to 1 rely of first-degree homicide, tried homicide and two counts of housebreaking. He faces a most sentence of 170 years in jail and can be ineligible for parole, the assertion mentioned.

The safety guard was not injured within the taking pictures.

Maynor was arrested Dec. 2 after safety video captured him leaving the Maynors’ residence shortly after the taking pictures.

Jacqueline Avant, a philanthropist, mom and one-time mannequin within the Ebony Fashion Fair, married Clarence Avant in 1967.

Clarence Avant is credited with serving to launch the careers of notable Black musicians, together with Bill Withers, and was often known as the “Godfather of Black Music.”

When Clarence Avant was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame final 12 months, Lionel Riche recalled him as “the one that brought us to some understanding of what the music business was all about.”

In a press release Thursday, Gascón mentioned the killing “continues to shock the conscience. Mrs. Avant’s death was a tragic loss felt by our entire community.”

A lawyer for Maynor couldn’t instantly be reached. His sentencing is scheduled for March 30.
