The 42-year-old Donald man has been charged with culpable driving causing death over the crash in Diggers Rest on December 6.
Investigators alleged the grain truck he was driving collided with a number of cars on the freeway near the Bulla Road overpass about 2.30pm.
A two-year-old Caulfield South girl, a rear seat passenger in a car carrying four people, died at the scene.
Her parents and sister, a 35-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman and a one-year-old girl, who were all in the same car, were all left in a critical condition.
Another driver, a 62-year-old South Melbourne man who was driving a Toyota Hilux that got trapped under the truck, was also left in a critical condition.
The woman remains in hospital in a stable condition, while others have all since been released from hospital.
The truck driver has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in May.
