New South Wales health authorities will announce the state’s latest COVID-19 update amid changes to vaccine public health orders.

The deadline for authorised NSW workers in local government areas (LGAs) of concern to receive at least one jab of a vaccine has been pushed back to September 6.

Public health directions previously required workers from one of Sydney’s 12 high-risk LGAs to have received at least one dose by August 30 in order to be able to leave the area of concern for work.

Onsite rapid antigen testing will no longer be available as an alternative to vaccination, NSW Health confirmed on Friday evening.

Sydneysiders are awaiting the latest virus figures after the state saw a significant drop in the number of new infections on Friday – reporting 882 local cases.

It marks a significant slide from the state’s pandemic record-high of 1,029 new infections, which were reported on Thursday.

More to come.
