As an electrician I earn decent money but I’m stressed about how I will find the cash for a bigger ring, as well as fund the wedding she is pushing for.

I’m 28 and she is 25.

I’m beginning to worry I won’t be able to afford everything she is asking for – 150 guests, the reception at a top hotel and designer dress.

I don’t want to start married life in deep debt.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your girlfriend sounds quite immature and very materialistic. It’s not fair for her to expect a ring and wedding that are beyond your means.

Sit with her and consider your budget and work back from there. If she continues to pressurise you in this way, explain your relationship and mental health will suffer. Does she really want that?

I’m sending you my support pack Standing Up For Yourself, which will help you to be firm.
